Becoming a Shredhead

I’m hopping on the 30 Day Shred with trainer Jillian Michaels bandwagon.  I need to get back into shape after treating my body liking a dumping ground for the past 6 (ok 9) (or more) months.

To help keep me motivated, I’m joining the Shredheads, fearlessly led by Kristen of Motherhood Uncensored.  My first task is to post an introduction, so here we go, with my photos and stats!

Here’s me, 6 weeks and 12 weeks pregnant with Blythe, respectively.  I don’t expect to look quite like that first picture any time soon, but it sure would be nice if I didn’t look bigger than I did when I was 3 months pregnant with my second child.

  6 weeks         12 weeks

 Today

I’ve done two days of the 30 Day Shred so far, but, um, not in a row.  At ALL.  I was so sore after my first attempt on Monday it took until Thursday before I could even THINK about doing another push up.  And even then I had to switch to the sissy modified method.

Instead of tracking my weight, I’m going to work on lowering my body fat.  I’m within my normal weight range, but my body fat is a whopping 8% higher than it was this time last year.  Holy Effing Bean Burrito, people.

Body fat: 25%

Goal: Stop treating my body like a garbage dump

Diet Plan: Drink more water, make healthier food choices, eat fewer processed foods, carry healthy snacks with me in the car so I’m less tempted by other things

Personal Rules: Drink a glass of water before eating, eat away from home no more than once a week

Shred Plan: I’d like to shoot for 5 days per week.  10 days of each level, if I can handle it!

Hah! Literal Dan got in first so I don’t feel bad about saying it: you already look like you will blow away in a puff of wind…

But it’s all relative, so go for it!

Wishing you courage – just thinking of the Shred makes me feel all tired and achey 😉

Six weeks pregnant and you were hot!! God, if I was EVER that thin!! Anyway, after I had my munchkin, I sat around and continued to eat freaking chocolate chip cookies dipped in vanilla ice cream. Then, one day, I took a picture of myself. And about cried. I couldn’t imagine posting it on my blog.

That being said, I have since lost about 20 pounds, with another at least 30 to go, so that’s exciting. I’m sure you’ll do just fine. You look like you have maybe 10 pounds to lose. And keep drinking water, lay off the sodas. That’s my only sound advice. Good luck with the work outs!

Hi,
The diet plan is customized to include appropriate portions of Proteins, Vegetables, Fruits, Starches, Fats, Dairy and LA Lites. LA Lites are soy-protein bars – which form a central part of the program. When purchased in bulk the cost of the bars is not insignificant.

Best way to lower body fat: the body weight/resistance training you get with the Shred is a good start. Cut back (way back) on grains, getting your carbs mainly from fruits and vegetables. Lean protein and healthy fats. And water. YES.

You look wonderful already, but could use a little muscle…

Athletes can be professional or amateur. A superior athlete is one who has above average physical skills (strength, agility, and endurance) and is thus more suited for physical competition. The word athletes is a direct Romanticization of the Greek: άθλητης [athletes], one who participates in a contest.

In previous years, fitness was commonly defined as the capacity to carry out the day’s activities without undue fatigue. However, as automation increased leisure time, changes in lifestyles following the industrial revolution rendered this definition insufficient. These days, physical fitness is considered a measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet emergency situations.

I Used To Love 5K run, but now I \ ‘m. No. Sure. I \ ‘d, can go to the 5K, but I feel so weak that it will be anything but my body allows me to do. Maybe I \ ‘ll go jogging this weekend and see how it goes.

You seem to have a very well proportioned body and your problem is the extra fat. If you keep up your fitness gym program and healthier foods, you are bound to get in shape in no time at all. Good luck!

The Ski Bum Diaries. Since then and the emotive tone of that piece has apparently struck a chord with ski bums across the land. We received this short essay from a contributor who had a few things of his own to say about the ‘waiting period’ that prefaces every winter……….
